Research Areas of Interest at ICS:

ICS research activity has gained national and international recognition for working at the forefront of several areas relevant to the cognitive sciences. The research within ICS can be loosely categorized into the following three interdisciplinary research themes:

  • Training and education: principles, communities, and technologies
  • Language processing: psychological, computational and technological approaches. Check out the website here.
  • Higher level cognition: cognitive neuroscience, computational, and theoretical perspectives.


Research Centers:

Some of this work comes together in multidisciplinary groups represented by three research centers within ICS. These research centers are formally acknowledged units within the university.

Institute members have access to a variety of facilities and equipment that provide a first-rate environment for cognitive science research. Facilities are shared across departments as research needs require. The campuswide computing facilities are linked together by an established campuswide network, and the Department of Computer Science has extensive research and instructional computing facilities for faculty and students.

The institute affords both graduate and undergraduate students who are pursuing a certificate in cognitive science as well as those pursuing a joint PhD with a variety of research opportunities.
